About ADHD Coaching

It’s a collaborative partnership

While the client chooses the main topic of conversation and is responsible for personal decisions and actions, the coach brings specific coaching skills, methods, and extensive knowledge of ADHD. The coach listens and adds observations and questions, and may also suggest ideas that can help create possibilities and identify actions.

It’s a safe space

ADHD coaches are bound by confidentiality and ethical standards of the certifying organizations, such as PAAC and ICF. They understand the challenges ADHDers are facing and can help turn their focus to their unique strengths.
For many ADHDers, this is one of the few times they feel they can talk freely and be accepted as themselves, without any need for masking.

It’s not a therapy

ADHD coaching is not therapy or medical treatment; it does not aim to heal past emotional wounds. Instead, it starts in the present and looks to the future. It supports personal and professional growth based on the individual's goals. The primary focus is on devising actionable strategies, fostering accountability, and ensuring follow-through.

It’s an exploration

ADHD coaches tap into their curiosity to help you discover how your unique brain wiring gets in your way and what opportunities it might bring. You'll gain a deeper understanding of what's possible, leading to more effective choices in life.
Yet, the most effective coaching happens between sessions, as you start to explore based on the newly gained awareness.

“Built upon unconditional acceptance and a powerful appreciation
of the client’s potential
, uniqueness, strengths, capabilities, and wholeness,
coaching is an ongoing collaborative partnership
created to facilitate personal growth and awareness that leads to conscious choice, focused action, and a meaningful, rewarding life.”

— ADDCA Definition of ADHD Coaching

  • When ADHD is holding you back from achieving the life you want, you need better advice than “Just do it. It’s not that hard.” You need a safe space to ask questions and find real solutions to your challenges – not more judgment and motivational expressions. That’s where an adult ADHD coach can help.

  • ADHD coaches support their clients by developing a comprehensive understanding of both the nature of their ADHD and ADHD’s impact on their quality of life.
